The Importance of Maun Ekadashi
Maun Ekadashi is celebrated on the 11th day of the month of Magshar (Magshar Sud.11). This year it falls on Tuesday, December 2. There are 150 auspicious events of Jina Kalyanak on this day.
Of the 150 auspicious events, there were 5 kalyanaks of our current Chauvisi (24 Tithankars). Those included are:
Shri Mallinath: Janma (Birth), Diksha (Renunciation) and Kevalgyan (Omniscience) Kalyanakas
Shri Aranath: Diksha (Renunciation) Kalyanaka
Shri Naminath: Kevalgyan (Omniscience) Kalyanaka
Similarly, five Kalyanks for each of the five Bharat Kshetras (including the one we live in) and five Airavat Kshetras. i.e. (5 x 5) + (5 x 5) = 50. These are for past, present and future Chauvisi. This brings the total to 50 + 50 + 50 = 150.
It is suggested to take a vow of silence for the entire day, do dharma chintan (reflect on virtues of Thirthankara) and fast.
Maun Ekadashi Dev Vandan will be performed between 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Aaradhana Hall
The Importance of Posh Dashmi
The Posh Dashami Festival celebrates the birth kalyank of Shri Parshvanath. It is one of the most important festivals within our Jain community. During this festival, we worship Shri Parshvanath for three days in the month of Magshar Vadi 9, 10 and 11, which falls on December 16, 17 and 18, respectively. Shri Parshvanath's birth kalyank is on 17th Magshar Vadi 10 also known as Posh Dashmi.
The festival can be celebrated by observing three Ekasanas - first day sugared water, second day kheer and third day full lunch; or by observing three days of complete fast (attham).
For this occasion, JCSC will be performing Shri Parsvanath Panch Kalyanak Puja on December 20, followed by Ekashanas. Snatra Puja will start at 9.30 a.m.
Please contact Padma Ben if you are interested in sponsoring a Snatra and/or any of the 8 Pujas.

Master of Memory in India Credits Meditation for His Brainy Feats
New York Times - The young man sat cross-legged atop a cushioned divan on an ornately decorated stage, surrounded by other Jain monks draped in white cloth. His lip occasionally twitched, his hands lay limp in his lap, and for the most part his eyes were closed. An announcer repeatedly chastised the crowd for making even the slightest noise.
From daybreak until midafternoon, members of the audience approached the stage, one at a time, to show the young monk a random object, pose a math problem, or speak a word or phrase in one of at least six different languages. He absorbed the miscellany silently, letting it slide into his mind, as onlookers in their seats jotted everything down on paper.
After six hours, the 500th and last item was uttered - it was the number 100,008. An anxious hush descended over the crowd.
And the monk opened his eyes and calmly recalled all 500 items, in order, detouring only once to fill in a blank he had momentarily set aside.
When he was done, and the note-keepers in the audience had confirmed his achievement, the tense atmosphere dissolved and the announcer led the crowd in a series of triumphant chants...
