World Vegan Summit - Fri, Mar 20 - Sun, Mar 22

Someone has to save the planet, billions of innocent animals, and humanity from hunger, disease, war, violence, and climate change - and it won’t be the people telling you to eat “humane”, free-range, cage-free, organic, grass-fed “meat”, dairy, fish, and eggs…It will be the people attending the Los Angeles area - WORLD VEGAN SUMMIT & EXPO

Friday, March 20 - Friday, March 22, 2015
Marina del Rey Marriott
4100 Admiralty Way
Marina del Rey, CA 90292

There will speakers, thinkers, movers, and shakers who will meet to focus advocacy and activism on creating a compassionate, healthy, environmentally-sustainable VEGAN world, with the abolition of all use of other animals for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, and (impossibly unattainable) “humane animal products”. Music, food, and fun! Spectacularly Creative Vegan Cuisine - featuring VEGANIC (vegan organic) produce. Join us for speakers, presentations, workshops, music, film, food, and fun! More details on the WORLD VEGAN SUMMIT & EXPO, which is a grass roots effort is being organized by Bob Linden of Go Vegan Radio

Committee on External Educational Activities

Committee on External Educational Activities

It is with great pleasure I wish to inform you all about the formation of a new committee "External Educational Activities" by the Board of Directors. As you know our Pathshala has been touted to be the oldest and best in entire North America. I believe the time has come for us to take a quantum leap to take the education of Jain Principles to the main stream Americans. As you all new we had started classes at Claremont Lincoln University (CLU) in 2011, however, CLU has changed their direction and will now only be an online university and does not plan to teach any religious classes.

Jain education is offered during summer for last 10 years by International Summer School of Jain Studies (ISSJS). ISSJS was started by JAINA past president Dr. Sulekh Jain from Houston. Another JAINA past president Mr. Dilip Shah from Philadelphia and JCSC's past president Dr. Nitin Shah have been working with ISSJS for last few years. Board has appointed Dr. Nitin Shah the Chair and Dr. Jasvant Modi, liasion from BOD to further the cause as there are many opportunities opening up to teach the Jain Principles to the main stream Americans in multiple universities. Please read on.....

If we believe that it is worth for the world to know and follow Jain principles than here is your opportunity to support any and all of the following worthy endeavors!

Virendra Shah, President, JCSC and Board of Directors

External Educational Activities

We are delighted with the formation of this committee and thank profusely the BOD, EC and all of you - the members of JCSC to consider stepping out of our normal boundaries to support educational activities outside of JCSC. We are the first Jain Institution outside of India that we know who as an organization will like to take this challenge. Another first for JCSC! We believe that the time has come and the needs in the world are greater today than ever before to learn and practice Jain principles of Ahimsa, Anekantvad and Aparigrah.

We are working with three universities at present in Southern California.

1. Chair for Jain Studies at University of California at Irvine (UCI) - This is a very unique opportunity. We are still gathering the details so information about this will be sent soon to all.

2. Loyola Marymount University (LMU) - we have commited to start a professorship in 50% partnership with Sikhs means the same Professor will teach both Jain and Sikh religions. The cost to do so is $100,000 per year so share of Jain will be $50,000. We are fortunate to have received $17,500 grant towards it from Uberoi Foundation. We need to raise the difference of $32,500 towards this chair. We would like to make three years commitment for this professorship.

3. Claremont School of Theology (CST) - They have offered to start a class to teach from September 2015. They will like a community teacher to teach this class. Someone with a Master's degree and who is a teacher in any profession will qualify to teach there. Cost to teach this class will be $3,500 per semester.

All of these will require lots of support not only financial but also physical so here is another opportunity to help with Tan, Man and Dhan! Please come forward to support. Many people are involved in this project and you can get more information from Virendra Shah, Hemendra Doshi, Sulekh Jain, Yogesh Shah (Gheeboli), Popat Savla, Dilip Shah, Mahesh Wadher.

One can donate directly to the institutions or go through JCSC.

Please call Dr. Nitin Shah at 562 244 9035 or Dr. Jasvant Modi at 213 999 7011 for details.

Wellness Challenge - Do 15 Minutes of Cardio

For the upcoming weekly challenge we are challenging the participants to "do 15 minutes of cardio activity every day.” Cardio exercises should always be an integral component of any fitness regimen. This type of exercise elevates your heart rate and has a rhythmic quality. People often use the terms "cardio" and "aerobic" to describe the same type of exercises. The Cleveland Clinic reports that in aerobic exercise, your breathing rate plays a direct role in the process of pumping oxygen throughout your body. As such, an elevated breathing rate is often a solid indication that an activity is aerobic in nature. For more information and to participate in the challenge, click here.

Logassa Challenge - Rehearse, Recite & Repeat

Rehearse, Recite & Repeat in 2015!

Logassa Challenge-Set aside 2 minutes
