Over £1,500 raised to complete the funding of £5,300 for a Vocational Training Workshop in Nepal.

2015 sadly saw Nepal hit by a devastating earthquake. Veerayatan were just one of many charities to set up camp to aid the Nepalese people, with their focus slowly shifting from short to long-term recovery.

Jain Samaj Manchester Jiv Daya team’s aim was to raise £5,300 over the course of the year, which would fully sponsor a Veerayatan set-up vocational training camp that would allow locals to learn certain trades to become more self-sustainable, such as sewing and computer skills. £1,000  more was needed to complete this task.

Approaching that special time of year, a Valentine’s Ball was decided upon, with Jain Samaj Manchester as the venue on Saturday 20th  February 2016. A theme of black and red draped the décor, from a red watermelon welcome drink to all 230 attendees dressed in smart black and red attire. The evening kicked off with delicious food and desserts, shortly followed by presentations, all the while the children’s entertainer for the evening keeping the young ones well amused.  Bina Gadani gave a brief overview of Jiv Daya’s purpose and activities thus far, followed  by Pramit Shah and Bakul

Shah from Veerayatan UK. They told the story of Veerayatan’s continual dedication to help the people of Nepal, their vocational training centres and a gentle reminder of the importance of helping those less fortunate.

Funds were raised through several methods on the night; a raffle draw of items generously donated by members of the community, auction of a Valentine’s cake, and a signed Manchester United shirt. On completion of the aim, a cheque for £5,300 was presented by Jain Samaj Manchester president, Piyush G. Mehta, vice-president and Jiv-Daya team leader, Kiran Mehta, along with the Jiv-Daya team to Veerayatan representatives, Pramit Shah and Bakul Shah.

No dinner and dance is complete without the music, for which DJ Amir did not disappoint. As the presentations were completed, the dance floor immediately filled up as the DJ got the crowd on their feet for the rest of the night.

Through the hard work and efforts of all committees involved in planning and the volunteers on the day, it was a very successful event, with a total of £1,566.71 raised for Nepal. This, however, would not have been possible without the support of everyone who attended, for which we sincerely thank you, and look forward to your continued support in future events.
