Jain Vegans
Hi all,
It's National Vegetarian week this week in the UK, and the Vegan Society has issued a list of top ten tips on going from vegetarian to vegan, which you can view at this link:
I think the tips are generally good, so please do read them and consider applying them:-)
However, I'd just like to point out that I'm personally not so keen about one point that comes up at the end of tip 9:
"...don’t stress over your chips being cooked in the same cooking oil as the fish down the chippy, as long as that oil is vegetable!"
While I can accept that some vegan items might contain minute traces of milk, egg etc due to such products being made in a production environment which also handles such non-vegan items (while endeavouring not to cross-contaminate):
a) I don't think I'd regard veg*n food cooked in non-veg oil/fat (e.g. fish oil) as veg*n, and
b) even if that food is considered technically veg*n, I suspect that most people who've been vegetarian/vegan all their life would not really go for e.g. chips cooked in fish oil (well, I'd certainly be put off anyway!).
Anyway, as I said, otherwise I think all the tips are sound and likely to be of interest to many on this forum, so please do have a look.
Best wishes,
Mahersh.
