GUWAHATI, July 8, 2016

Acharyashri Mahashraman, the supreme head of the Terapanth Jain sect reached Guwahati today to lead the Ahinsa Yatra of 20,000 km on foot.

The Acharyashri is accompanied by more than 100 of his associate monks to spread the message of non-violence, unity, uplift and anti-drug campaign for the people of Assam.

The main objectives of the yatra are to promote harmony, morality and de-addiction to help build a healthy society.

The Acharyashri has so far attended several religious gatherings not only in India but also in the neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bhutan.

For the first time, the revered Acharya has decided to spend four months at the newly-constructed mansion at Dharapur near Guwahati Airport to attend and deliver the message of non-violence and preach social harmony.

The Gauhati University and Jain Viswa Bharti University are jointly organising a lecture on ‘Social Transformation and Harmony’ to be delivered by the Acharyashri at the BKB auditorium, GU at 10 am on July 9. An annual award of Rs one lakh will be instituted on the occasion, which will be given every year to persons working in the field of social transformation and harmony.
