Jai Jinendra Everyone

We have had another successful year at SCVP in 2015/16 thanks to the commitment, motivation and dedication of everyone connected to SCVP - parents, children, teachers, volunteers, supporters well-wishers, committee and trustees. We wish everyone a well-deserved break over the summer to recharge batteries and would like to highlight a couple of announcements.

Last month, Dr Harshadbhai Sanghrajka was awarded MBE in the Queen’s Honours List for services to the community and interfaith work. On behalf of Veerayatan UK / SCVP we would like to formally congratulate Dr Harshadbhai on this wonderful achievement, raising awareness of Jainism in the wider community and specifically for his continued support of Veerayatan and SCVP Jain school where many teachers and students have benefited from his guidance (Dr Harshadbhai has been a teacher at the school in the past). A formal congratulatory letter is being presented to Dr Harshadbhai on behalf of Trustee, Committee & Teachers of Veerayatan/SCVP.

SCVP London would also like to advise everyone of continued calendar of events (see below) through the summer with two more beautiful walks organised in July and August, English Pratikraman during Paryushan in August/September and of course start of the Autumn term in September with exciting activities planned for the children and two wonderful topics for the adults.

We welcome you all to put these dates in your diaries and look forward to seeing you at all our events and activities.

Kind Regards
SCVP London Teachers and Committee

Paryushan - SCVP English Pratikraman - Aug 29th - Sept 5th 2016

Paryushan is a time of introspection and reflection. SCVP will be conducting Pratikraman in English on all eight days of Paryushan. The Pratikraman in English will be with explanations and a perfect opportunity for all families to participate and appreciate the significance of this important Jain ritual. All are welcome to join this event which will be conducted in two venues, Edgware and Hayes.

SCVP Autumn 2016 Term Dates and Adult Class Topic

Our 2016/2017 academic year begins with the Autumn term commencing on Friday 9th September. We have exciting plans for all the children classes including a new class with intake of children aged 3+.

The adult class will also be undertaking an in-depth learning of  the Tatvarthasutra - a work of immense importance .This most profound text on Jainism unparalleled in its comprehensiveness will be explained via interactive sessions by our teachers and will provide an insight and understanding of the self.  The Tattvartha Sutra is a complete treatise on Jain dharma , is accepted by all Jain communities, and is a must for any person who is wishing to learn about the religion, the nature of the soul its progress and the process of liberation. It is not only very practical but it allows one to explore one's own progress.

In parallel, SCVP will also be running a short 10 week course from this September entitled Living with Awareness to explore the profound message of Mahavir Bhagwan. The course will include meditation; learning a prayer; analyse what daily living should encapsulate having regard to the principles of Jain religion and the doctrine of Anekantavad (multiplicity of views); Jain concept of god and the importance of devotion and explain the fundamentals that govern all life. This interactive class will facilitate a fundamental shift in how to conduct daily living using Mahavir Bhagwan’s timeless wisdom. Come and find out more in September

Please see enclosed term dates for the Autumn term and details of topics being covered in the Adult Class.
