Ūrdhvatā Sāmānya

That Sāmānya (generic character of an object), which persists in both the states- prior and posterior- during any transformation, e.g., inspite of change in the shape of a pitcher, clay remains the same.

pūwāparapariṇāmamasādhāraṇaṃ dravyamūrdhvatāsāmānyam. ūrdhvatādisāmānyaṃ pūrvāparagunodayam. piṃḍasthādikasaṃsthānānugatā mṛdyathā sthitā.
