“Om Namah Siddibehyo”

Sixth day (31st Aug & 1st Sep both days dashami tithi) of Dashalakshna Mahaparva: Uttama Sanyama (Self-restraint) - To control the pleasures of five senses - touch, taste, smell/breath, sight, hearing; and the sixth - mind.

Sanyama: Means to self-control: Control over five sense organ & mind for the purpose of being a good human and destroying the Karmas in two different kinds.

I). Restraining from injury to other’s life (Or external elements) - we have to control ourselves not to harm any living beings in this univers including lower sense beings termed as 'Nigod'. Also to control ourselves from causing damage to the environment, natural resource and indulging in bad activities.

II). Restraining self-injury - This has been elaborated in Nischaya Sanyama Dharma.
Self-restraint of our mind from desires/passions &  Emotions: example - likes bound with greed, dislikes bound with hate, anger & over joy will lead to misery. These extreme emotions arise only when the mind is out of control or in a state of false belief (Mitytava), which will lead a person to bad life and divert the soul in the journey for liberation or moksha.

It is very important to have complete control over five sense organs.

Control on Nose: Controlling breath (by Yoga & Meditation) leads to control of other sense organs & mind which gives mental peace.
Control on Tongue: Avoids over eating or non veg & verbal abuse - Always Speak soft & true.
Control on Ears: Avoid hearing bad & unwanted things & noise.
Control on Eyes: Avoid seeing bad things which will distract our mental peace.
Control on Skin: Avoid external pleasure & not to touch unwanted things.
