YJA Retreat - Feb 23 - 25, 2018

Every year YJA hosts a retreat in each of it's regions. The West Retreat just opened up registration and we want to extend this opportunity to the youth at JCSC. The retreat is going to be held in Fresno, CA from February 23rd - 25th and is an amazing opportunity for the youth in our community to come together and get to know one another.

At the YJA retreats, there is discussion on various topics in Jainism and how they apply to our lives as youth in this country. The aim is to give the Jain youth an opportunity to learn from and express themselves to their peers over the course of a weekend. The goal is to get our youth to be more active and involved in the Jain community, both at your sangh and at the national level.

YJA West Retreat is just around the corner and we want to make sure that you save the dates: February 23 - 25, 2018 for the West retreat. Whether you're a retreat veteran or a first-timer,join in to be a part of the fun! Get ready to make new YJA friendships and rekindle old ones, attend awesome sessions, devour (and create) yummy food, and connect with fellow Jains from across the West. Registration is now open, so sign up now and don't miss out on all of the fun! If you have any questions about retreat, feel free to email [email protected]!"

YJA really appreciates your support. If you have any questions or concerns or would like YJA's help at your sangh, feel free to contact Pranay Patni  at [email protected] or (408)-674-2941 anytime.

Chaumasi Chaudas - Feb 28, 2018

Jains celebrate Chaumasi Chaudas three times in a year:  On the fourteenth day of Kartik, Falgun and Ashadh months. Jain Community celebrates Chaumasi Chaudas with great joy and enthusiasm all over the country. They make it a fabulous event by performing religious acts and by worshiping Lord Mahavira. People celebrate it by wearing colorful clothes and by adorning their houses. They also give some charity and donation on that day for earning  good ‘Karma'. Chaumasi Chaudas Dev Vandan will start at 2:30 pm followed by Pratikraman, on February 28, 2018 at JCSC.

Wellness Challenge - Get Outside Your Comfort Zone

For the upcoming weekly challenge, we are challenging the participants to “Get Outside Your Comfort Zone." In times of stress or discomfort, remind yourself that some of the best things happen outside your comfort zone. These experiences can both challenge you and help you grow.  If you are interested in learning more and participating, click here.

1) Palitana Giriraj 6 Gau Yatra: Feb 27, 2018

Chhah Gau Yatra is a journey of about 16 km in pilgrim town Palitana in Bhavnagar district. It is mainly a kind of penance that helps a devout set of the evil results of past deeds and makes his journey to Nirvana or salvation faster and shorter, says Jain saints and scriptures. Over the year the Chhah Gau Yatra is becoming more popular and lacks pilgrims visit on this single day. Chhah Gau Yatra starts from Jap Taleti on the foothills of Shatrunjaya and ends on the other side at a place known as Siddhavad. The name Siddhavad is after a Banyan tree here and it is said thousands of Jains have achieved the final stage of life-death cycle, Nirvana or salvation and become free from the bondage of Karma. The Chhah Gau Yatra covers all Jain temples in Palitana. Siddhavad is near Adipur, known as the birthplace of Lord Adinath the first Thirthankar. It is believed that every Jain should visit Palitana at least once in his lifetime to get “Bhavya” status (fit to attain nirvana or salvation). There are a total of 1250 temples located on the Shetrunjaya hills, exquisitely carved in marble. The main temple on top of the hill is dedicated to 1st Tirthankar lord Adinath (Rishabdeva). This year the auspicious day of Chhah Gau Yatra begins on February 27, 2018.
