AV & IT Volunteer Announcement for JCSC

As Jain Center of Southern California continues to expand not only with the facility but with more events every year attended by new members and young families, so does our need for volunteers in many different areas. For every event to be successful, it requires careful planning, organizing and execution by a number of volunteers with very specific skills. We are blessed to have some very dedicated and committed volunteers who regularly give their time and service (Seva) for the benefits of the entire community.

Have you ever asked yourself:

How much “Seva” am I giving to the Jain Center?

Am I getting more from the Center than I am giving?

Will we have a thriving Jain Center for the next generation as our children grow and continue living and practicing the Jain religion and culture?

If so, ask no more. Here is your chance to get involved and provide much needed “Seva” to our Center which is mutually beneficial. By doing this “Seva” you will not only reap the benefits in this life but even in your future lives to come. So please come forward and sign up. We are in need of volunteers in the AV (Audio/ Visual) and IT Infrastructure area. We are planning to overhaul our 15 years old equipment to take advantage of the features and functions available in the latest technology.

Every event requires Audio/Visual support. As you know, we cannot do this without the help of capable & willing community members. We are seeking individuals with not only specific skills & experience but also individuals who would like to learn the new technology that may help in even developing a career. We can also provide credits for volunteer work to the students over 14 years of age and young adults for their time which can help them with the college admissions etc.

Specific work areas and skills required include:

Audio/ Video, Lighting, Webcasting, Networking, Hardware/Software/Infrastructure Management, Technical Support, Project/People Management, Event Planning, Organizing, Technical Writing, Customer Service/Communication, Training etc. (More specifics of the Technical areas of interest are listed below)

If you have any of these skills or if you are interested in developing these skills then we want to hear from you. Please fill out the Google Form attached and we will contact you soon. This initiative has the full support from EC/BOD and our President Jasvant Modi. Please contact Narendra Maniar @ 562-761-3738 or [email protected], if you have any questions or suggestions. Our Jain Center will be only as good as we make it, so it is up to each and every one of us to see that we make it as best as we can.

Jain Studies at CSUN

On the Guru Purnima day (Friday July 27, 2018) with a gift of $800,000 dollars, Drs. Jasvant and Meera Modi of Los Angeles signed the legal documents to establish the Bhagwan Ajitnath Endowed Professorship in Jain Studies at California State University Northridge (a suburb of Los Angeles).

Modis are big philanthropists; particularly in promoting Gnan Mandirs (temples of learning) in Jainism at colleges and universities in USA. So far, they have been instrumental with their big donations to establish Bhagwan Parshvanath Chair at University of California at Irvine, Bhagwan Mallinath Endowed Professorship at Loyola Marymount University, Bhagwan Vimalnath Lecturership at University of California at Santa Barbara, Shrimad Rajchandra Chair at University of California at Riverside and Bhagwan Mahavir Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Rice University and several other such initiatives. More to come hopefully soon.

Dr. Jasvant Modi is a vegan and the current President of the Jain Center of Southern California, Las Angeles.

Jain Community is grateful to the Modis for their vision, dedication and support to the causes that eventually will help in sharing the wisdom, richness and philosophy of Ahimsa, Karuna, Compassion, multiple perspectives and practices of non-attachment with Jains and non Jains.

Welcome Dairy free taste in non violent spirit:

As we Jains also become Vegan, meaning become non-violent for true and stress-free progress, let us gladly accept and welcome the dairy free taste, and stop yearning for searching the taste of animal milk and animal milk-based ice cream, yogurt, ghee, cheese etc and most importantly, stop criticizing dairy free taste. We vegetarian Jains have already done this successfully and made tremendous progress by having stopped yearning for the taste of onion, garlic, beet, reddish, honey, mushrooms, eggs, poultry and meat. A similar approach towards dairy products will make our transition painless and make us more nonviolent and kind in thought and in behavior.
If we hang on to the Dairy taste, it is like becoming Brahmchary with vow of chastity and keep yearning for sensual experiences, or becoming sadhu or sadhavi and keep yearning for colored clothes.
Let’s accept veganism in thought, taste and behavior for true progress.
