Light To Lamp Lights: 41 ►The Problem of Lack Of Thinking

Published: 17.09.2019

Man has goodness in him. Man has also the evil in him. Usually, a person's thinking extends to the point from where the good in him becomes manifest. When he looks at others, his point of view changes. The mentality of looking at others in one's own context is on the decline. How would it benefit to look at the bad things in others? What is the point in getting involved in the questions as to how bad a particular person is and in what evil doings he is indulging? The problem should be as to how any evil should be stopped., The evil can be at the individual level or at the collective level. The evil has so many faces that with the best of efforts, its original face does not appear before us. If the root cause of the evil is discovered it may be possible to put a stop to it. The person who is making such an effort may not necessarily have success. But if he recognises its indications, then it may be easier to find a solution to the problem that may crop up in future. The philosophy of taking a long term view of any reality can take us to the point from where person may find a new direction of life.

Some people turn a blind eye even to the things happening right before them. No matter for how long a mirror is passed among the blind people, they cannot see their faces. But blinding is not only of the eyes, it can be of ideas also. Lack of thinking and ideological insistence is the greatest obstacles to accepting the reality. Lack of thinking is a serious problem of this age. The power of thinking not only among political and religious leaders, but also among philosophers and men of letters is getting blunted. The new thinking has got rusted as it were. What has gone wrong is that in every field you come across only a few names that you can count on your fingers. The darkness is so dense that the stars would not suffice to fight against that darkness. When those stars themselves are on the move how can you expect to get their light?

Some people are waiting for the opportune time to work. That too is a kind of an evasive attitude. Those who are keen to work do not wait for anyone. Quite often such people get isolated in the beginning. They are being ridiculed they are ignored and obstructions are created in their path.

The same thing happened in the case of Acharya Bhikshu. But he did not stop. He did not give up. He continued going along his way. The path was shown. Some people extended their hand of cooperation. His revolution was successful. Had he succumbed in the face of initial difficulties, the way of thinking laxity in the matter of conduct and behaviour would have been lost in hazy twilight.

If the bad things in the present day life of the people are not countered today, they would never be countered. The country has the ideals of Mahavira and Gandhi before it. It is the duty of the people of the country to look within and check if they are following those ideals in their lives. Why the people in whose life there should is no trace of those ideals would want other people as examples to follow? Only when this thinking in terms of others is related to one's own self becomes one's own thinking, then the voice to counter the evil would become louder. Anuvrat is a movement for self reform or individual reform. Only on the basis of this philosophy, the human society would develop the capacity to do away with irrelevant things.
