We are living in an age of machines. Mind of the men of this age is working as a machine sans conciseness. Man of this age is behaving like a machine that has no sense of propriety. It is not that he has lost his power of thinking. Rather it appears he has learnt how to think beyond his limits. He, perhaps, for this reason, is busy thinking of novel projects of material creation. Moreover, to make them happen he remains constantly active. In quest for material gains he has become disrespectful to human values.
Man of twentieth century, with respect to development of machines, has made considerable advances. Machine man is one of his inventions. The other day I came across news that population growth has become a major concern for many countries. Similarly, proliferation in number of machine men—robots are a matter of concern. As of now, the number of robots that the world is producing is getting two fold in every two year. It is estimated that at the close of the century there would be more than one crore robots in the world.
Now the question is—what would all these machine men do? Man has a tendency to avoid taking pains to work. He wants to enjoy fruits but without making efforts. Modern machines are capable enough to replace thousands and thousands of working people. Than what would be left for the machine men to perform? If they would have no work to keep them busy they may quarrel with menfolk. If some technical snag develops, we fear, they may cause havoc. Some indications are already there. We have newspaper reports stating that such machine men may revolt and claim for homeland. If nothing happens of this sort, then too, danger of their resorting to nuisance would always be there.
