Third Plenary Session:
Spiritual Foundation for Developing a New Model of Economic System

The session was chaired by Prof. V.S. Vyas, an eminent economist and former Director, IIM Ahmedabad.

D'souza

The first speaker, Ms. D'souza said that each individual should be conscientious in discharging obligations to family, society and government. A potential of comprehension of such liabilities is a must. Spiritually a person should give sense of belonging to human kind. We cannot imagine having an economically sustained society without a personal experience of inner peace, which gives a self referral state and an understanding of non-violence and promotes productivity and compassion in all life.

She referred to an email from a physicist friend on 15 July, 05. It was an article of Abraham Maslow, ‘Maslow predicts a shift' and this shift is a shift in consciousness. In the 1950s he predicted the transformation of humanity into a realm of spiritual transcendence. He, at that instant, had no idea of that just how soon it would develop into a major movement. The magnanimity of the event and all the large number of delegates present here today stand a testimony to a consciousness being raised and everyone present here being a part of that inner sense to want to reach out and change the outer life.

She was very emphatic about Non-violence as not being merely just what human beings do to each other. It should be visualized in a much wider context. It is the way we treat animal life, the way we treat our mother earth and the way we take our daily food. Non-violence goes all the way to the core, to the sustainment. It is the essence of life and that is what should be preserved by all means.

The address was followed by a series of comments.
