The floods in North-eastern India have caused a state of utter emergency. A VIER PFOTEN (FOUR PAWS) unit is on location now to vaccinate the victims’ live stock and supply food for the animals. The project is a matter of survival for the impoverished population: The animals are crucial to their livelihood.

Vanaspatti

The village Vanaspatti is located in the Indian state of Bihar Sitamarhi and is made up of 500 households – each one consisting of 8-10 people and three animals. VIER PFOTEN has calculated an extremely undernourished cattle stock of 1500. The immense Monsoon floods have entangled the fates of humans and animals inextricably.

Immediate measures

VIER PFOTEN is supporting Vanaspatti with urgently needed animal feed for the next two months. The VIER PFOTEN team on location will be supplying medical care, vaccinate live stock and build provisional stables.

Close cooperation

The close collaboration with the Indian help organization “Nav Jagriti” and the affected local administration was very helpful in staging such a fast intervention.

Gatherings held to inform the population have attracted over 500 people: The presence of a “Nav Jagriti” employee and Hindi-language vet has facilitated sympathy and understanding. It has helped us to sensitise out understanding of the most pressing problems of the locals and accelerated VIER PFOTEN being welcomed with open arms.
