Jainism, one of the oldest living religions, with its nucleus in the Magadhan region, expanded and emerged as a distinguished Indian religion. Its contribution in the field of art, architecture, literature and philosophy is unique. Jainism is a way of life, an art of peaceful living. Its code of conduct emphasizes non-violence, tolerance and respect to other faiths. It advocates care for environment, conservation of natural resources and promotes friendship to all malice to none.

 

Contemplating on the relevance and contribution of Jainism towards universal brotherhood, the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Karnataka, Mysore, has organized three days' International conference on "Jainism through ages: an historical perspective", on the 8th, 9th & 10th of October 2010, at Mysore, beautiful city of palaces. The proceedings of the conference will be published subsequently. English is the official language of the conference.

 

Papers are invited on the following themes:

  • Art (Jaina)
  • Architecture
  • Epigraphy
  • Literature
  • Philosophy

Through this first circular, it is our pleasure to invite scholars working in the field of jainology, to participate and present papers. We request the willing participants to oblige by returning the enclosed pro-forma duly filled, so that it reaches us before 30th June 2010. Former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and eminent Jainologist, Prof. Hampa Nagarajaiah will be the general president of the conference.

Since there is no registration fee, all the delegates will be extended local hospitality including boarding and lodging. Foreign delegates will be received at the Bengaluru International Airport and conveyance is arranged to take them to Mysore, which is 180 km from the airport.
