Daily Flood Report: 28th September, 2011

Orissa has witnessed two rounds of floods during this month. The situation in the villages under Aul, Pattamudai and Rajkanika blocks of Kendrapada and Bari, Dharmasala blocks of Jajpur districts was remain critical. While seven helicopters have been engaged into service for air dropping food packets in the worst-hit areas. During the past five days, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), fires brigade teams engaged in search and rescue operations.

It is 20th day since our disaster rescue team has been working restlessly to provide relief to the surviving animals. Toady, our team along with 14 volunteers of Garteswar Youth Club, Rajnagar reached in the most marooned villages of Udayapur, Malipur under Srirampur Gram Pancyat of Pattamundai block. The team, which includes veterinarians, volunteers has been conducted emergency feeding to 164 animals (green fodder and rice bran), provide 10 bags of cattle feeds, and providing 18 temporary animal shelters.

We will be thankful by the thoughts of the animals we were able to save today, and we’re looking forward to those yet to come. Daily Flood Report: 27th September, 2011

The present flood situation in Orissa is still in alarming as in its black moon day and people, animals and villages are still inside the flooded areas. There is humidity, anguish and hunger in most villages. People’s frustration is running high. Today, our disaster rescue team along with three members team (including 2 Vet. Doctors fromVeterinaryCollege, Orissa University of Agriculture Technology) of Emergency Relief Network has been reached the flood affected areas of Dandisahi, Nahiadia, Krushnadaspur, Singhagaon villages under Pattamundai block. Dr Laxman Behera, Chief Vet doctor was also joined with the team in the afternoon for a quick review and future action plan at APOWA office in Hatapatana. We are committed to helping as many animals as possible in this time of emergency.



Daily Flood Report: 26th September, 2011

The flood situation remained grim today. The areas of the Brahmani river system are experiencing the worst floods in their history. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and Air force along with 7 helicopters have been continuing on rescue and relief operations with over million still marooned in Kendrapara district. Thousands of people with their animals took shelter along roadsides and river embankments under temporary polythene roofs depending purely on whatever little relief was supplied. Today, our disaster rescue team conducting emergency feeding to 104 animals and treatment to 61 animals at the river embankment in Ghagara, Charigaon and Dhumanta area.


Daily Flood Report: 25th September, 2011

Flood situation continues to be more grim with more breaches occurred and water submerged into more areas of the Kendrapara and Jajpur districts. Today, one of our disaster rescue team remains in river embankment of the river Brahmani conducting emergency feeding, treatment, care and providing temporary shelter to animals and another team is working on evacuation and rescue operation, in the affected areas of Pattamundai block.

In this precarious circumstance we would request you to extend your supportive hand to mitigate the plight of thousands of animals.

Daily Flood Report: 24th September, 2011

The coastal Orissa had not yet recovered from last week flood in the riverMahanadi, the flash flood in the rivers Brahmani, Baitarani wreak havoc in 10 coastal districts of Orissa. The above rivers are yet again flowing above the danger mark and continue to remain grim. The current flood in the river Brahmani, which is being termed as one of the worst flood in its history. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams along with 6 helicopters of Air force have been deployed in the worst flood-hit districts of Orissa for rescue and relief operations. Even our office and shelter house is under threat in this time.

Considering the situation, our disaster teams have been hard at work of evacuation and rescue operation, emergency feeding, veterinary care and providing temporary shelter to animals in the affected areas of Pattamundai block.
