Sustainable Development through Ethics & Value-based Education


Development is not sustainable without values and ethics - Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi

Spokesperson of AICC and Eminent Parliamentarian Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, we cannot achieve sustainable development without ethics and values. Incidents like ENRON can be avoided through inclusion of moral values in corporate governance. Dr. Singhvi was addressing the Acharya Mahapragya Memorial Lecture as a Key Note Speaker & Chief Guest at PHD House organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce And Industry & Jain Shwetamber Terapanthi Sabha. He said there are some problems associated with money, immorality, corruption, crime, exploitation, temptation, jealousy, fear and tension, uneasiness and unhappiness. As money is useful the economic development cannot be neglected. We can try to find out the solution to the problems related with money and corporate governance. Ethics being one of the good solutions thereof. Addressing the conclave, BJP Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar said politicians are generally talking about the physical and economic development but for overall development, morality and spirituality are also necessary. The imbalances and distortions can be corrected only by ethical goals, ethical values and ethical conduct as operating parameters and this was the real message of Acharya Mahapragya.

Mr. Anil Singhvi, Markets Editor of CNBC Awaz explained about the need of ethics and morality in corporate sectors as well as in personal and family life.

Disciple of Acharya Mahashraman, Muni Shri Jay Kumar while addressing the gathering said that economic development should be guided by non-violence, purity of means, non-erosion of moral value and limits to self-interest. These have to be inculcated at the very basic level. All the three elements lead to ethical behaviour. Muni Shri also explained the fundamental principles of ethics like unity of mankind, sensitivity, compassion, moral conduct and purity of means. The practical principle of ethics are - Moral Trust, Development of collective consciousness and abstaining from reactive violence and its awareness, earning money and its utilization, putting a limit to individual acquisition and consumption.

Dr. Rikhab C. Jain, Chairman of TT Group, Mr. Arun Gupta from ISCKON Temple also addressed the seminar. Introductory remarks on the subject were presented by Mr. P.R. Sethia. Mr. Salil Bhandari, President of PHD Chamber of Commerce And Industry gave welcome speech and Dr. Kusum Lunia conducted the program. Vote of Thanks was given by Mr. Sukhraj Sethia.
