Mumbai, 11.12.2012

Prof. Dr.  Michael Stausberg of the Bergen University is planning to embark on a project on the religious history of Mumbai. As we all know, Mumbai is replete with a great diversity of ethnic and religious communities. These communities are usually studied in isolation, if at all. This project aims at bringing in a more comprehensive perspective. In order to achieve this, knowledge and scholarship about the different groups that comprise the social fabric of Mumbai needs to be brought together on a common platform. As a first step, Prof. Stausberg would like to know about the potential existence of available studies of these communities in the context of the Mumbai metropolis. Please let me know if you are aware of any such studies, be they historical, sociological or anthropological in nature. Even community-wise data collection is relevant to this project.

If you have access to the data we are looking for, or would be interested to be a part of this project you are welcome to contact Prof Stausberg at:

Else, feel free to contact me directly.

Best regards,
Manish Modi
