The Jain Samaj in Manchester celebrated Mahavir Janma Kalyanak with full enthusiasm, zeal and devotion, on Saturday 27th April 2013

Over 350 people gathered at the Jain Community Centre to celebrate the 2611th birth anniversary of the Jain prophet Lord Mahavir.

The chief guest were Sadhvi Shree Shilapiji Maharaj and Sadhvi Shree Sumedhaji Maharaj, both from Veerayatan in India.

On this 10th Anniversary of the Jain Community Centre, the children from the community planted 10 trees as a form of social dedication to honour not only what the tree is desired to represent on a social level, but also honour the importance of what the tree will provide to the world through its lifetime.

This was followed by an Exhibition of Shri Astapad Tirth and its special significance to Indrabhuti Gautam the main character of the main Event to follow, later in the evening after Dinner.

The programme started with Devotional prayer with beautiful music.

Sadhviji briefly narrated the background, describing Mahavir Bhagwan`s previous lives and even his soul was not Exempt from the effects of Karma.

The high light of the celebration was "Walk With Me" a Play of the life of Bhagwan Mahavir through the Eyes of his principle disciple Indrabhuti Gautam.

The performance was spectacular and was met with thundering applause from the members.

Over 100 volunteers rose to the occasion by providing necessary help with tree planting, the exhibition, dinner and the main play.

The programme concluded with Vote of thanks by the Religious secretary Mrs. Sarojben Patel.

Over £ 700 was raised for St Ann's Hospice and National Kidney Federation Nominated charities for the 10 year celebrations.
