The body is medium for attaining salvation as well as a binding force.
Attachment binds while detachment releases.
The colour, features and form of the body are visible and so give rise to attachment.
When the inner sentiments manifest themselves, then they create detachment.
This detachment is called Ashauch bhavana or Ashauch Anupreksha [impurity of the hodv].
Those meditating towards emancipation often use this spiritual practice.
