About:At Penn since 2006, Steven has studied Sanskrit and Prakrit, as well as Old and Modern Gujarati. He has studied Prakrit in Pune and Germany, and Gujarati in Ahmedabad and Madison, WI. He is interested in issues of historiography and the representation of the past, as well as applying perspectives from contemporary aesthetic and literary theory to premodern Indic narrative literature. Steven holds a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) degree from Harvard Divinity School (2006) and a BA from St. Lawrence University. He is also a veteran of the University of Wisconsin College Year in Nepal program (1999-2000).
Steven will join the faculty at Florida International University in January 2013 as an Assistant Professor in the Religious Studies department. He is tasked with creating an MA certificate program in Jain Studies as he holds the Bhagwan Mahavir Professorship in Jain Studies.
