Jain Center of Greater Boston
Jai Jinendra,
As many of you know, we have some issues with our constitution that have resulted in confusion about membership, election requirements and several other items. Hence, back in September, we created a special Committee to suggest modifications to the constitution that can be presented to General Body for approval in December of 2014. The committee consisted of Pradip Gosalia, Chandrakant Vora, Tarang Jain, Kamal Shah and Narendra Zaveri.
The Constitution Subcommittee (CSC) met regularly every Tuesday and reviewed our documents thoroughly. They also invited community members to meet with them, and received input from several members. In addition, they looked into practices of various Jain Centers in North America. Their findings were presented at a meeting in November to EC, Board and select Community members who had given significant input to CSC.
CSC did a great job of identifying and providing solutions for many issues with constitution. While we have agreement in general with most issues, there is an obvious lack of concurrence on membership issue. It would not be wise to go to General Body with partial corrections,
Hence we will not take a vote on constitution on December 7, but keep on working on it until a consensus can be built. Of course, the next EC and Board will have to concur on the direction.
