The city got the name from Raja Jaysing, father of Shrimant Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur who developed the city and planned the city with its great architecture, Jaysingpur is known as one of the planned city in maharashtra where you can get all roads which meets in 90° and this is designed by Shahu Maharaj. Swarupa Patil(Yadravkar) is current Mayor of city. The city is famous for the tobacco market which is one of the biggest in the country. The city used to house production units of notable Gutkhas and tobacco in the region. God Siddheshwar The Gramdaivat Of Jaysingpur Is Also Famous And God's Siddheshwar mandir (4th Lane), It also has established many Digambar Jain Temples within City,Digambar Jain's are major in numbers, most of them are involved different political and social activities. Jaysingpur is rapidly developing as a major satellite suburb of Kolhapur region.The city has a very strategic location as it is on the diagonal meeting point of a quadrilateral formed by Kolhapur, Sangli, Miraj and Ichalkaranji.
