  1. Non-indulgence in sensual pleasures- To refrain from the keenness in the objects of five sense-organs, such as sound and the like.
  2. Fasting- To abstain from the in-take of the fourfold nourishment, viz., food, drinks, delicacies qua eatables, delicacies qua lickable.
śabdādigrahaṇaṃ prati nivṛttautsukyāni pañcāpīndriyāṇi upetya tasmin vasantītyupavāsaḥ. aśanapānabhakṣyalehyalakṣaṇacaturvidhāhāraparityāga ityarthaḥ.
