1. That ascetic (Muni), who is well-versed with the meaning of the Chedasūtras (four canonical works, viz.,

Niśitha, Vyavahāra, Kalpa, Daśā)). Viditah- munitah parijnāto'rthah chedasūtrasya yena tam viditārtham khalu vadanti gītārtham.

2. That ascetic (Muni), who is retainer of both the sūtra (the text of the scripture) as well as the artha (the meaning or the purport of the scripture).

ekah sūtradharo'pyarthadharo'pi.... tattvatogī- tārthaśabdamavikalamudvodhumarhati.
