Jain Society of Greater Detroit
28000 MIDDLEBELT PROPERTY
Dear Society Members,
Jai Jinendra & Pranam,
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all members who attended the wonderful 26th Anniversary event of 18 Abhishek on Saturday, June 29, 2024, and gave us the opportunity to give a presentation regarding the potential purchase of the 28000 Middlebelt property. Your participation and attention are greatly appreciated as we consider this important opportunity for our community.
For those who were unable to attend or would like to review the details again, we are providing a copy of the presentation (click HERE). We encourage all members to review the information carefully and send any questions or feedback to [email protected] by July 15, 2024.
We are excited about the opportunity to purchase an 11,000 sq. ft., two-story building with a basement located on ¾ of an acre of land at 28000 Middlebelt Road, just two minutes walking distance from our temple. This property represents a great chance to fulfill our vision for the future, offering many opportunities such as:
- Purchasing at a much lower price than market value
- An asking price of $575K, which could potentially be lower
- Expanding and bringing in some of the activities currently held in the Temple
- Providing excellent storage space to free up space in the temple
- Offering a place for Yatris to rest
- Holding Swadhyay group meetings, yoga classes, senior activity rooms, and a Jain Museum
- Conducting study classes in modern, well-equipped classrooms as envisioned by Guruji
- Accommodating extra vehicles during major events and activities with the large parking lot
However, we also need to consider some necessary repairs and modifications to make the property suitable for our needs:
- The property needs extensive repairs both inside and outside
- Projected repair costs range from $500K to $1.1M
- Modifications are needed to meet our specific requirements
- Adding an elevator if required
We are seeking general body approval to purchase the property and allocate up to $1 million for these necessary repairs. This investment will ensure the property is safe, functional, and suitable for our community's needs.
To address any questions and provide further details, we will be holding two general body meetings:
- First Meeting: July 21st, after the Panchkalyanak Puja
- Second Meeting: August 10th, after the Study Class
These meetings will include a Q&A session to ensure all members have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.
The Board of Trustees will follow the approval process as outlined in our Constitution to ensure that all members have a voice in this decision.
Thank you once again for your continued support and engagement.
Sincerely,
The Board of Trustees

MICS Technology Camp for Seniors - Congratulations to the JSGD Team
Dear Society Members,
Jai Jinendra & Pranam,
Message from the MICS team --
On behalf of the entire MICS team, we would like to congratulate the JSGD Team for a very successful and effective Technology Camp, conducted at the Jain Temple on June 9, 2024.
The camp was very well attended by ~100 Seniors and several volunteers.
In addition to the informative presentation sessions conducted by several MICS Volunteers, our 30+ Youth and Adult Volunteers did one-on-one consultations & problem-solving with the Senior members. These sessions helped them to understand multiple features of technology and at the same time using technology in a safe & harmless manner. The response overall was overwhelming.
The team of volunteers from Jain Temple was highly enthusiastic, very gracious and well organized. The volunteers served sumptuous food with a lot of Love & affection + Warmth & ‘Bhakti’. Everyone from MICS team highly appreciated their efforts and gestures.
As requested, we have attached is a PDF file of the entire presentation deck from the Camp. Please feel free to post it on the JSGD website so that all the members (including those who could not attend) can benefit as well.
In addition, we would appreciate if you can post a link for taking a survey related to the "Indian-American Community Center - Needs Assessment". Here is a link:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSetCBpflRt_FPk8wneoAWIY9Zd98ddKka6A2L0h9RRpQlDyJg/viewform
This will help in appropriate prioritization of the needs of Seniors, Youth and Adult members of the community, right at the design stage of the potential Indian-American Community Center.
Thanks again for a wonderful experience.
We look forward to working with you in your future projects.
On behalf of Michigan Indian-American Community Services (MICS)
