School Lunch for Jain Students Survey - Harvard Law School

Dear JSGD Members,

Jai Jinendra,

Please see the email below received from JAIN regarding Jain Food in Schools. Please fill out the survey links.

Dear Jain Center Representative,

I would appreciate your help. Over 177 email addresses are on this email since this is a very important issue facing the Jain community. I am the current Executive Director of the Harvard Law School Animal Law & Policy Program and the Clinical Instructor of the Harvard Law School Animal Law & Policy Clinic. I am also a Jain American. I am working on a project focusing on school lunches for Jain students. As you know, the school lunch option for Jain students is usually the salad bar. Or it is an option that does not have the same nutritional benefits as non-vegetarian/vegan meals. Students sometimes resort to being "non-veg" at school to focus and stay engaged in classes. As Jains, our dietary choices stem from our religious beliefs of nonviolence, yet Jain students are often in situations where schools do not recognize their religiously mandated diet. We embarked upon this project to support students who sometimes have to choose between eating at school or abstaining from eating and following their religion. This should not be happening.

The survey will only take a few minutes. While parents and students will have to fill out their names and contact details, if you are contacted for further questions, you can request that Harvard Law School keep your survey confidential from the school. It is very exciting because this project has generated excitement and support from two Professors, one Clinical Instructor, one Clinical Fellow, and four law students. Below are links for the parent survey and the student survey. Please circulate to your membership.
