Samanijis Pratibha & Punya Pragyaji (r) with Swami Ramdev (m) at House of Commons, London
On Thurday, 13th July 2006, Samanijis were invited to the House of Commons in London to talk together with Yogamaster Swami Ramdev on Vegetarianism. The group 'Young Indian Vegetarian' had asked them to present their views on the subject. It was the first time, that Jain nuns had the opportunity to present the Jain view on Vegetarianism to a public consisting of political representatives in a European Parliament. The audience appreciated the points given by the Samanjis and felt inspired by getting to know the ethical values on which Vegetarianism is based in Jain philosophy.
An increasing number of Europeans actually is opening their minds to take into consideration a change to Vegetariansm. Due to a growing awareness how animals are treated in the context of meat production, many Europeans - everyone being an elector! - are no longer ready to accept the way these poor creatures are tortured in the name of consumption.
