Fourth Plenary Session:
Indian Ancient Model of Economic System - Is it relevant today?

Muni Abhijeet

Muni Abhijeet confirmed that economics is a distribution of material property whereas the science of peace rests on the limitation of wealth. There is no meeting point, no convergence between unlimited expectations and peace. Economics is a system of sciences and there is a natural relationship among the different sciences. Studies about wealth, income and employment, unfortunately remained indifferent to human social sciences. It fails to understand the social aspect of human life leading to evils and in turn giving a fillip to violence. The evils have a direct manifestation of income-based inequality, which has to be removed by making the poor better off.

Main objective of current day economics is that as far a possible the attitude of self-interest should be promoted, by the help of personal motivation, which stimulates a man to earn more and more. All these objectives of economics are certainly alluring and tempting, but do not focus on the needs of society at large.

Narrating an anecdote, he said that we need great thinkers like Acharya Mahapragya to suggest a new system to resolve the evils and make the world a better place.
