Mouth pad, mouth cover
Wearing of mouth covers by Jain monks and nuns, is based on the principle of Ahimsa, non-violence between all living beings:
  • The air, which is seen a living being in Jainism
    • not to swallow any small inhabitant of the air (from insects to microorganisms)
  • Avoiding harsh speech.
