Trishala

According to the Kalpa Sutra, queen Trishala was the mother of Bhagavan Mahavira.

• Queen Trisala of Vasistha Gotra, was the sister of king Cetaka of Ksatriya caste who ruled over Vaisali, the capital of Videha. According to Jain tradition, king Siddhartha and queen Trisala were both followers of Bhagavan Parsvanatha's Sramana tradition. Queen Trisala became the 'Universal Mother' because she gave birth to the twenty-fourth Tirthankara.
• With the foetus of Bhagavan Mahavira in her womb, the holy queen Trisala witnesses the following fourteen auspicious objects in her fourteen dreams:
  • a lion
    
  • an elephant
    
  • a bull
    
  • goddess Laksim
    
  • a pair of garlands
    
  • the Moon
    
  • the Sun
    
  • a flag
    
  • a silver jug
    
  • a lake with lotuses
    
  • the milky ocean
    
  • a divine aerial car
    
  • a heap of jewels
    
  • a smokeless fire
• The queen narrated the dream to the king and asked him what it augured. The king as well as the dream-interpreters predicted that the queen would give birth to an illustrious son destined to be a Tirthankara in this very life.
