Like everywhere in Jain Sanghs, the celebration of Paryushan in Kolkata focused the attention of Jain Dharma’s followers on spiritual discourses & activities. Sadhvishrees Nirvanshree & Dr. Yogkshem Prabha guided the realisation of forgetting & forgiving activities during the festival.

They gave lectures on the 27 incarnations of Lord Mahavira before he attained omniscience (Keval Gyan) & got salvation (Moksha) and then gave details on his life. They continued with pointing out the history of leading Jain Acharyas succeeding Lord Mahavira, spoke on Samayik, Swadhyaya Jap and the importance of meditation. They further did Pratikraman with the community every evening.

The morning after Samvatsari many people gathered for the exchange of Khamat khamana, Paryushan greetings granting & asking for forgiveness for any harm, committed knowingly or unknowingly during the year. The function was celebrated in an atmosphere of amity & kindness.

Many laypersons did Paushad or different kind of tap during the month of Savan and Bhadava. Some children had observed one day fast.
