Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir Temple at Mahudi (Mehsana District of Gujarat) is considered to be one of the most sacred Jain pilgrimages in Gujarat and spreads over an area of two square kilometers. In ancient times, the place was known as Madhumati.
Acharya Shrimad Buddhisagarji Maharaj had observed a long period of penance here and had inspired the construction of new temple. According to local tradition, he saw a tortoise passing through this barren land years ago. He considered this a sign of good luck and a decision was made to build Mahudi tirth here.
