Kothara
is a village in Abdasa Taluka of Kutch district of Gujarat.
- Kothara was an estate (jagir) founded during the reign of Godaji (1715-1718), when Godaji, the ruler of Kutch, gave the Mundra estate to his brethren Haloji. Haloji founded towns of Kothara, Kotri and Nagrachi.
- The place is famous for Kothara Jain Tirth, built in Vikram Samvant 1918, that is year 1862 AD. It is one the famous five Jain temples of Abdasa ni Panchtirthi (meaning five-temples of Abdasa). Other Jain temples are in nearby places in Abdasa Taluka. The two - storeyed chief temple is very well carved and attractively sculptured. The flags of the eight peaks, fascinate the minds of pilgrims from distance. The open square, the arched gates, the pillars with their special artistry glorify the artistic skill of those days. One of main architects of these centuries old beautiful Jain temples were Mistris of Kutch.
- Kothara lies in hot, arid and dry region of Kutch. The Arabian Sea is on its West and Rann of Kutch on North.
