2012 Karuna's Mewar Tour

Mr. and Mrs. Singh from Amet Palace mentioned their friendship with a German lady in Udaipur when they heard that I am from Germany. They know her who is an artist since a couple of years. First she had lived in Amet, and then she moved to Udaipur where she had created a beautiful garden and an extraordinary house over the years. Every year she stays there during the cold months.

This activated my curiosity, and I asked for her phone number. With the help of Akruti I finally succeeded to contact her because the given number did not provide direct connection to her. When Akruti heart that I had appointment with Madam Fee she was happy. Madam Fee not only originated from Germany, according to Mr. Singh’s description of the location where she lives in Germany she probably was living not far from my Berlin home. This was confirmed!

So we met the day after my trip to Mount Abu. She sent a Riksha man who exactly knew her location to my hotel on my account. This was very helpful, as otherwise I do not know if I had found the location. On the way he stopped at a corner in front of a fruit stall and purchased some fruits for Madam Fee. For me this was a wonderful occasion to study a little closer the day-to-day life this morning in Udaipur.

Madam Fee came back from a morning walk with her neighbours when we arrived. She showed her garden to me. Actually her garden consists of two parts, one summer garden, and one winter garden. The summer garden has plenty of shady trees; the winter garden is open with many flowers. Her house is very individually designed and shows that an artist has created in Udaipur her urban retreat. The landscape around is hardly cultivatable, showing with which arduousness she finally has succeeded in creating a nature inspired work of art.

We had tea and talked until both of us had other obligations. The Riksha man brought me to a location called Amet Haveli, the Udaipur propriety of the Singh family from Amet. By chance I met Mr. Singh jun. there who was about to pick up his children from kindergarten because his wife was busy with other responsibilities. No question that I took his photo, together with the Riksha man. Amet Haveli is a renowned hotel with restaurant, redecorated in the style of a traditional Rajput palace at the royal court, situated at one of the many Udaipur lakes.
