Bairat

is a town in Rajasthan, situated on the Jaipur-Alwar highway.

  • Bairat, which was once named Viratnagar (“city of Virat”) was once a capital of the legendary kingdom Matsayadesh and is said to be founded by king Virat, in whose kingdom the Pandavas spend their exile and parley occurred to avoid the Kurukshetra war. Hence, the place is mentioned in the Mahabharata.
  • Shri Parshvanath Digambar Jain Nasiyan at Virat Nagar is situated north of the town at the foot of Vindhyachal Mountain range.
