Please support JAINA Education Committee and eLibrary Project.
If you haven't had a chance to donate this year, we encourage you to consider donating some funds to the Jaina Education and eLibrary activities. Your generosity inspires all of us, for that we are truly grateful to you.
Volunteers who prepare the Jain education materials and manage eLibrary activities not only pay for their own expenses in doing these activities, but they also donate to the cause. So, 100% of your contributions go to paying for printing & shipping of Pathshala books and scanning & website related expenses. We depend on the generosity of our supporters to carry forward these worthy tasks. We thank each and every one of you for your support. Now we have less than $7000 in our account.
See below - How to contribute to Jaina Education and eLibrary.
Summary of Jaina Education Committee Activities
Looking back at 2012, we can definitely say that it was a great year for the JAINA education committee and the Jain eLibrary project committee.
JAINA Educational Material
Jaina Educational material compiled by JAINA Pathashala teachers is now in use in several countries like UK, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and India.
We continuously add/improve all our Pathshala Educational material. This year we have added/improved and re-published following books
1. JES 102 - Baiscs of Jainism I.
This is the most popular book for level 1 (Elementary School) children prepared by the past pathshala student and now teacher Dr. Parinda Shah of Chicago.
2. JES 901 - Jainism
This is a reference book. This year we have added several new topics and hence we have changed its number to JES 902. Several Jain temples in America give this book to their visitors. (Cost is $1.00)
3. JES 302 - Jain Philosophy and Practice I.
The Pathashala teachers’ conf of 2012 has decided to update this book within a year. Most of the updating work is complete and we will be sent the final draft to all teachers for their final review.
4. JES 108 - Basics of Jainism II.
This book is being compiled by the Jain Sangh of New England (JSNE) to teach young children (pre-KG through Grade 2) preliminary Jain concepts and good values. All the material of this book is taken from Jain Series Text books (4 book series) illustrated by Ms. Swati Padhye and team, under the guidance of Dr. Shantilal Muttha and Dr. Premchand Gada, and published by M/s Prabhat Printing Works, Pune. Dr. Shatilal Muttha privided the permission and FJEI Organization and Dr. Premchand Gada provided the soft of copy of the literature. JAINA Education committee appreciates their support.
5. JES 201 - Jain Sutra Books (3 set of books)
In 2013, we will be publishing 3 Sutra Books (Svetambar Murtipujak, Sthanakvasi, and Digambar Sects) for temple and Pratikraman ritual of each sect. Each book will have original Sutra, English transliteration, meaning of each stanza, and significance meaning of the sutra if any.
Svetambar book is almost complete and soon will be published. We will publish separate news letter for this book when available.
6. Jain Sutras on Audio tapes –
This project is delayed because of lack of fund.

JAINA International Teachers' Conference 2012
Jain Center of Southern California in Los Angeles hosted the fourth JAINA Education International Teachers' Conference 2012 under the guidance of Sailes Jain and Rajul Vasa in month of May. Conference was held on May 25, 26 and 27. Eighty Pathshala teachers from fifteen centers participated in the conference from United States, Canada and Singapore. All out of town participating guests were hosted by Los Angeles center teachers and volunteers in their homes.
Goal for the conference was to establish systematic class lessons that will be used as guide lines to teach Jain religion in the class rooms. Project was initiated in this conference and will continue for one or two years until work is completed by Pathshala teachers and final books are published.
Jain Centers across America provided their write up, methods and structure for class lessons for the conference. Religion material was reviewed and considered for two basic groups. First group was level 1 and level 2 that included children 9 yrs old and younger. Second group was level 3 and level 4 that included children 10 yrs and older. Each group will have approximately one hundred lessons of sixty minutes each when the project is completed. Each lesson will contain teaching material, method, time management, brief quiz and home work. Hemant Shah of Jain Center of New England has compiled detailed report.
All work is being summarized and will be made available through Jain eLibrary website (www.jainelibrary.org) in March 2013.
