Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Congress leader Digvijay Singh and a number of leaders today paid rich tributes to Acharya Tulsi, a jain religious leader.
Speaking at an event to mark the birth centenary of Acharya Tulsi, Gogoi hailed the Jain leader's contribution, saying his teaching was still relevant.
"The need of the hour is to follow the path of peace and harmony. This is the path that has guided millions. We must work towards maintaining peace in the country," he said.
Singh, Rajya sabha MP Tarun Vijay, and TMC MP Vivek Gupta were among other leaders who attended the function.
Digvijay Singh said "only non-violence can take the country forward,."
The event was organised by Acharya Tulsi Birth Centenary Committee.
"We are starting Ahimsa Yatra from November 9, 2014 from the Red Fort here to promote peace and spread the message of Ahimsa. Acharya Mahashraman with his monks will travel 10,000 kms to Nepal on foot," said organiser of the event Kamal Dugar.
