 1. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hope you and family had good sukh shata and Michchami Dukkadam upon conclusion of Das Lakshan Parv.

India’s Prime Minister Modi held a private lunch-on with Community Leaders last Saturday in San Jose, California. JAINA was invited to participate in the lunch. I met and requested PM Modi to strive to stop beef export from India. PM Modi also held Town Hall mtg. on Sun evening.

Several JAINA members were invited and attended this Town Hall mtg..

 2. PARYUSHAN UPDATES
A Number of Jain Centers conducted various events across North America
I. Jain Society of Metropolitan Chicago (JSMC) 

Chicago Jains Celebrate Ancient Ritual of Repentance and Non-Harm

On Sept 17, 2015,  nearly two hundred children, teenagers, and young professionals gathered braving the sudden downpour to celebrate Paryushan Parv and Pratikraman.  

Brianne Donaldson, Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Monmouth College write a wonderful article about the event.  

II. Jain Society of Middle TN
During the time of Paryushan Parv, morning yoga coupled with afternoon Kalpasutra study were conducted at JSMT. The offerings of Ashwinipragyajis pravachan, evening pratikraman and swadhya were enjoyed by the community. Nearly 85 members were in attendance of the Supan ceremony. Samvatsary pratikraman was carried out in 3 locations. The JSMT also celebrated two atthais, one khshirsamudra tapasya and six upvas.
III.  Jain Society of North Texas
North Texas Jain Sangh completed 2015 Paryushan and Das Laxan Celebrations on high and enthusiastic note with record numbers participation and noticeably larger youth participation. The activities spanned broad spectrum of adhyatmic activities of rituals, tapasya, pratikramans, swapana and Mahavir Janma and bahvana ceremonies.
IV. Jainism Worldwide - Paryushan in Singapore

Paryushan Mahaparva Celebrated in Singapore with great enthusiasm

On September 12th 2015: Paryushan Mahaparva has been celebrated with great enthusiasm in the auspicious presence of eminent Jainacharya and founder of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti Acharya Lokesh Muni in world famous tourist destination Singapore. At Paryushan Mahaparv organized by Singapore Jain Religion Society more than 1000 devotees including youth gathere in the morning and evening everyday to listen to the spiritual and enlightening pravachan of Acharya Lokesh Muni.

 2. FORGIVENESS DAY CELEBRATIONS - OCT 3
A Number of Jain Centers will hold events across North America
 I. Celebrating Ahimsa Day at Jain Society of Greater Detroit (JSGD)

On October 3, JSGD is also celebrating JAINA Kshamavani Day by inviting Samanijis from Miami for an English lecture to youth, professionals and interfaith leaders to talk about the significance of forgiveness and it's impact on daily life from 10a-12:30p followed by a Swamivatsalya Lunch.

 II. Ahimsa Day Siddhachalam - 24 Hour Jaap
On Oct 3, 2015, starting at 9a, Siddachalam will be organizing a Namokar Mantra Jaap led by Harshaben Patel starts at Parshvanath Temple and concludes at 9 AM next day

JAINA, Federation of Jain Associations in North America, in collaboration with JITO, Jain International Trade Organization, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) is proud to present:

The 2nd phase of Jain Youth Exchange Program [JYEP].

This year's inaugural JYEP Program will take twelve Jain Youths (ages 18 - 25) from Canada / USA to India for approximately three weeks trip starting on December 18th 2015 and finishing on January 10, 2016!

The Jain Youth Exchange Program offers exposure to different cultures ranks as one of the most powerful ways to promote Indian culture and Jain way of life. The Jain Youth Exchange program intends to provide hundreds of young students with the opportunity to meet people from other countries and to experience new cultures, planting the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding.


 5. WORLD COMPASSION AHIMSA DAY (WCA) - Nov 7 / 8

What is Compassion?

Let’s use the Wikipedia definition of Compassion: “Compassion is an emotion that is a sense of shared suffering, most often combined with a desire to alleviate or reduce the suffering of another; to sho special kindness to those who suffer. Compassion, essentially arises through empathy, and is often characterized through actions, wherein a person acting with compassion will seek to aid those they feel compassionate for.

8. CENTER SPOTLIGHT - JAIN SOCIETY of GREATER DETROIT (JSGD)

On September 20, 2015, Jain Society of Greater Detroit's Jain Organization of Youth (JOY) held a unique event- TEACHER'S DAY to commemorate the teachers and volunteers of bi-weekly Pathshala. 

The JOY volunteers (ages 13-17) took the places of the teachers and taught the ~140 young kids who attended- there were a variety of topics like Karma Theory, Jain Holidays and Ashta Prakhari puja, to name a few. They also prepared games and creative activities for all the students. Additionally, JOY took care of the usual assembly for announcements and helped handle the food.
