Felicitation of Dr. M.B. Modi in Palithana and Girnar

Published: 07.05.2016

“Thousands of years ago when science was not in existence, ancient Jain Shramans known as Dhundias or ‘seekers’ of truth, used spiritual wisdom, logic and mathematics to understand God, Universe and Truth. They made history by postulating concepts and theories, which are similar to those found in standard textbooks on quantum physics, quantum cosmology, quantum biology, psychology, neurology and life sciences. Unlike other religions, Jainism describes the physics of Atman, Karma and Paramanu which is today’s quantum physics. It is our duty to tell the world that science had Indian origin and that Jain religion shows the path how to use science to avoid disputes, conflicts and wars and lead a happy and peaceful life”. Thus, thundered Dr. Modi while addressing Swetambar Jain Sadhus and Sadhvis in Palithana on 3rd April 2016. He received thumping ovation for more than an hour for his innovative scientific presentation of ‘Jain Spirituality and Science’. Several Jain Acharyas not only felicitated him but also extended invitation for holding classes of two weeks or more for the benefit of young Sadhus/Sadhvis and students during their forthcoming Chaturmas in 2016.

Following day on 4th April, he was the guest of honour of Digambar Jain Pujyaniy Acharya Nirmal Sagar ji Maharaj in Samovsaran, Girnar. While felicitating Dr. Modi, the revered Achaya said, “Bhagwan Mahavir was Kewalgyani but it was Guatam Ganadhara, who spread Mahavir’s message across the world. Dr. Modi, by his novel interpretation and presentation of Jainism is doing an omen service like Guatam Swami. The Digambar Jain Samaj of Girnar honours him with a Pagari and a memento. We hope to invite him soon and organise programs on learning and spreading scientific Jainism”.

Param Pujya Acharya 1008 shri Nirmal Sagarji  Maharaj felicitating Dr  M.B. Modi on 4th April 2016 at his Samovsaran at Girnar in Gujarat.  Shri Arinjay Jain son of renowned Jain Pandit late shri Sukhmal Jain is seen in the background.

As a brief introduction, new readers may please know that Dr. M.B. Modi is very senior retired DRDO scientist, who is presently guiding a group of Jain scholars engaged in investigative research on ancient Jain scriptures. For the first time he has been able to show that Jainism presents quantum physical concepts of space, time, truth, duality of mass and energy. Dr. Modi wrote in his book Jain Vigyan that “It is Bhagwan Mahavir and not Einstein who told the world that the so called empty space is in fact a Dravya with Awagahan Guna and 2500 years later Einstein used the word ‘gravitation” for Awagahan Guna.  It is Bhagwan Mahavir who told the world that ‘Truth’ is Absolute but at the same time it appears varying as a function of space and time. Thus nature of Truth is ‘Satyasat(Sat+Asat). Einstein in 1905 reiterated the same as ‘Theory of Special Relativity’.

The world believes that the fundamental law of science namely ‘conservation of mass and energy’ was discovered in 16th century in Europe. The world does not know the fact that Jain religion made God irrelevant for the existence of the universe by explaining how atoms unite to create a molecule (Skandha) and molecules aggregate to form bulk material according to the fundamental law of nature scripted in Jain Agamas as - ‘Upneiva - Vigneiva - Druveiva’.  Similarly credit for discovery of Quantum Atom having electric charges and motion goes to Neil Bohr but truth is Jain Agamas describe that an atom possesses Ruksha and Snigdha Sparshas and ten types of motions that result in creation of molecules (Skandhas) and emission and absorption of radiations.

The world knows that De Broglie discovered dual nature of matter in 1933 and Planck in 1989 said radiations also have dual nature. These two discoveries brought revolution in science and gave birth to Quantum Physics. What the world does not know is that Jain religion describes an atom as smallest indivisible material particle and also as one Akash Pradesh or space element. It also describes Karma (action/work/force/momentum) as flow of particles- Karman Parmanu. This simply means mass and energy both have dual nature and that they are equivalent to each other. Of course credit should go to Einstein for expressing this equivalence in the form of an equation- E= mc2

In his book ‘Vaigyanic Mahavir’, Dr Modi has shown equivalence of fifty Jain concepts/principles with corresponding fifty science concepts/principles. All other Jain scholars have used Newtonian or Engineering Physics to explore Jainism and could not bring out real Jain science. In his book ‘Jain Vigyan’, Dr. Modi presents Jain space science, Jain material science, Jain atomic and molecular physics, Jain life science and Jain science of Asrav, Savanr, Bandh, Nirjara and Moksha  as  Epigenetic and Genomics.
