Hindmotor

Hindmotor is a small town of Hooghly District, West Bengal, India and near Serampore, situated on the western bank of the river Ganges. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.

The town is popular because Hindustan Motors Ltd. (HML) has been in the area since 1948. Part of the manufacturing sites of HML also belongs to neighbouring Uttarpara and Konnagar. The famous Indian car Hindustan Ambassador, fondly called "The king of Indian roads" had its manufacturing plant here. This car had its origins in on the Morris Oxford series III model, which was primarily a British car from 1956 to 1959.

Hindmotor comes under Uttarpara Kotrung municipality, which was established in 1853, much before the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (1876).
