श्रमण डॉ पुष्पेन्द्र ने जैन धर्म के 24वें तीर्थंकर महावीर स्वामी के जन्म कल्याणक (जयंती) के अवसर पर देशवासियों को शुभकामनाएँ देते हुए कहा कि भगवान महावीर ने जो शिक्षाएं और संदेश दिया वह आज भी प्रासंगिक हैं। अहिंसा, अपरिग्रह, करुणा और क्षमा के विचार जनमानस की जीवन पद्धति बन गए हैं। महावीर स्वामी ने मानवता को शांति, प्रेम, सौहार्द और बंधुत्व की भावना के साथ जीवन जीने का मार्ग बताया। संपूर्ण विश्व एक है और सभी प्राणी एक ही परिवार के सदस्य हैं। एक का सुख सबका सुख है। एक की पीड़ा सभी की पीड़ा है, उनका यह संदेश आज भी पूरी दुनिया के लिए आदर्श है।
उन्होंने आगे कहा कि आज पूरे विश्व में अशांति फैली हुई है। अनिश्चितता का दौर है, भय का माहौल है। एक दूसरे के प्रति अविश्वास की भावना है। अहिंसा, अपरिग्रह, जियो और जीने दो आदि सभी महत्वपूर्ण तीर्थंकर महावीर के सिद्धांत अनेकांतवाद की नींव पर ही टिके हैं। अनेकांतवाद का अर्थ है कि किसी भी एक पक्ष को सही मानकर नहीं चलना वरन सभी के मतों को, सभी के पक्षों को समाहित करते हुए तथ्यों तक पहुंचना। आज सभी समस्याओं की यही जड़ है कि सभी केवल अपनी बात को ही सही मानते हैं, दूसरों के सापेक्ष से उसे नहीं समझते यही दुख का कारण है, अशांति का कारण है। महावीर ने भारत के विचारों को उदारता दी, आचार को पवित्रता दी जिसने इंसान का गौरव बढ़ाया। उसके आदर्श को परमात्मा पद की बुलंदी तक पहुंचाया, जिसने सभी को धर्म और स्वतंत्रता का अधिकारी बनाया और जिसने भारत के आध्यात्मिक संदेश को अन्य देशों तक पहुंचाने की शक्ति दी। यही कारण है कि आज विश्व में तीर्थंकर महावीर के सिद्धांतों की ओर लोगों का ध्यान गया है। जहां अनेकांतवाद के सिद्धांतों का पालन नहीं हो रहा है वहां आतंकवाद की जड़ें मजबूत हो रही हैं। भगवान महावीर ने कहा था कि मूल बात दृष्टि की होती है। हम किस दृष्टि से अपने आसपास समाज में हो रही व्यवस्थाओं व घटनाओं को देखते हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि हम भीतर से अपने को देखें एवं उसकी सापेक्षता में इस जगत को समझें। आज महावीर के सिद्धांतों को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए महावीरों की आवश्यकता है, प्रयोग वीरों की आवश्यकता है।
