Jeevan Vigyan - As Mean for Enhancing Emotional Intelligence

Jeevan Vigyan [SOL] is a spiritual-scientific system of value education for attitudinal change, behavioral modification and development of an integrated personality by enhancing emotional-intelligence. For developing and integrated personality, balance between left lobe and right lobe of brain, sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system of autonomous nervous system, hypothalamic-limbic system and neuroendocrine system is essential. Today, the system of education is sharpening the left part of the brain and S.N.S of A.N.S. and overlooking the other parts of the brain and body. Actually body, senses, speech, breathing and mind are working sheet of emotions.

Our emotional world is large and wonderful. It needs deep attention and understanding. It is related to the inner as well as our outer personality. The endocrine system is messenger of these feelings. Modern science has proved that glands are responsible for all sorts of attitudes and behavior. Their secretion not only emanates feelings but enforces an individual for fulfillment of those desires.

According to Acharya Mahaprajna we exist with two hearts. One is known to all. The other is related to hypothalamus. It means our limbic system or emotional area is a more powerful heart than our functional heart. The combination of hypothalamus and endocrine glands builds a neuroendocrine system which is responsible for our behavior and feelings.

Emotions are related to deeper level of our consciousness. They are subtle in nature. Their turmoil and disorders in mind, body and speech. They change our behavior. That is why without understanding the management of emotions, we cannot practice spirituality, ethics and morality and other values in any aspect of life.

SOL is a theoretical as well as practical program of meditation and contemplation, which deals with problem of emotions. According to Acharya Mahaprajna, for solving the problem of conduct and character, ethics and morals, values and virtues in every field of life. We should focus on emotional intelligence. He thinks that different school of thoughts and theories of emotional get together, only then we can get better solution for universal as well as practical problem of the society. He believes in anekant that is multi perspective outlook. In this respect, SOL acts as an umbrella, biological, psychological theory of KARAMA, and spiritual ideologies.

Physiology of an aggressive emotions viz., anger, aggression, violence, fear and so on needs to be understood. These emotions agitate brain, increase heart beat, breathing rate, metabolism, slow down digestion, dry up salivary gland and upset system of the body.

Biology of aggressive emotions: adrenaline activates, ceratonin slows down, endorphine stops, S.N.S overacts. Thyroxin hormone gets imbalance. In short neurotransmitters and biochemicals get disorder and affect behavior adversity.

Psychology of aggressive emotions: Heredity, environment, age, friend circle, socio-economic background, way of lifestyle, thinking, imagining and perception are key factors which affect and cause emotional uncontrol.

Tools for enhancing emotional intelligence:

  1. asana-exercise:
    rabbit pose, yoga mudra and relaxation. These exercises pacify adrenaline, help in activating function of pineal and pituitary. Relaxation makes one tension free, makes good balance between S.N.S and P.N.S.

  2. pranayam:
    alternate breathing for balancing the mind body relation.

  3. preksha:
    it means perception of psychic center with color such as
    jyoti kendra preksha with white colour,
    vishudhi kendra preksha with blue colour,
    shanti Kendra preksha with green colour.
    This programme of preksha meditation manages emotions.

  4. contemplation:
    tolerance and mental balance.

  5. chanting:
    om,
    kshaum kshaum.
    Chandesu nimmalyara siddha sidhim mam disantu.

  6. posture:
    veetraga and abhay.
