Dr. Sonal Lal Gandhi, President of ANUVRAT Global Organization - UN NGO works under the leadership of Acharya Mahapragya, the head of ANUVRAT's transnational center for peace and nonviolent action, as an important NGO associated with the Department of Public Information of the United Nations. ANUVRAT's work focuses on strategies to inculcate a culture of peace and nonviolence among children and youths, where thousand of children have benefited from periodical camps.
Dr. Gandhi is confirmed official speaker and guest of the President of the General Assembly at the 61st United Nations Informal Interactive Hearing of the General Assembly on Interreligious and Intercultural Understanding and Cooperation for Peace on Thursday 4 October 2007. Dr. Gandhi will speak on "Jain Contribution to Interfaith Harmony" as part of the ministerial and highest possible level of speakers, attending the three plenary meetings: Thursday morning 4th October and two on Friday, 5 October. He will also be attending the afternoon meeting on 4 October 2007 as an informal interactive hearing with representatives of civil society, including representatives of non-governmental organizations and the private sector, to be chaired by the President of the General Assembly.
ANUVRAT GLOBAL ORGANIZATION (ANUVIBHA), a non-profit socio-cultural society dedicated to the noble cause of Ahimsa (Nonviolence - preached by Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mandela, etc.,), has completed 24 years of voluntary service to humanity. It now enters its 25th year, celebrating its Silver Jubilee 30th December 2007, in conjunction with the 6th International Conference on Peace and Nonviolent Action (Sixth ICPNA).
There are two main events: the International Dialogue on the Challenge of Violence, Hunger and Poverty: Evolving Sustainable Countermeasures to be held from 23rd - 25th December 2007.
The second event is the 1st International Nonviolence Training Camp scheduled from 26th - 28th December 2007, following an interfaith dialogue on partnerships for peace on 29th December with the finale of celebrating the Silver Jubilee on 30th December. The venue is at the Peace Palace in Rajsamand, 60 kilometers from Udaipur (Rajasthan) - the city of lakes.
The events are being held under the auspices of His Holiness Acharya Mahapragya, aged 88, one of the most revered national saints of India and celebrated Jain Acharya known for his historic Ahimsa Yatra (a journey on foot to enhance peoples awareness of non-violence) and Yuvacharya Mahashraman, his successor. The two apostles of Ahimsa (nonviolence) have been telling the world that the survival of humanity will be difficult, if violence, poverty and hunger continues to gallop and not initiated in time.
