Dr. Gelra is a noted scholar of Jainology and has been first vice-chancellor of JVBI Ladnun, deemed university, and has already been awarded with Agam Manishi. His aim is to spread the message of peace and non-violence; his life is proof of the Anuvrat Code of Conduct. The Anuvrat Movement aims to widen to the moral basis of life and to help develop in each individual the power of self- protection against impure conduct. Simple living and high thinking is just reality of Dr. Gelra's life.
The prestigious Anuvrat Award was instituted by Jai Tulsi Foundation New Delhi in February 1988 in recognition of personalities dedicating their life to work for human values to make society healthy or educational institutions aiming at not only providing intellectual knowledge to their students, but also building their character.
Since 1994, Annual Anuvrat Endowment Lecture on non-violence, unity and peace by Anuvrat International has been institutionalised at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at New Delhi, and is organised by various organisations aiming at helping their students to build value-based characters.
The Award will be given to Dr. Gelra in presence of H.H. Acharyashree on next Maryada Mahotsav or any suitable date fixed by Jai Tulsi Foundation with consent of H.H.; it consists of a remarkable amount of Rupees and a Citation.
It has been donated to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan for awarding their students in secondary and higher secondary schools for excellence in character. Since then, students of 30 schools are getting awards for excellence in character. Further, Anuvrat Shiksha Sansad (Anuvrat teachers' body) was among the awarded.
