Jain Temples at Sonagiri

Sonagiri (or Sonagir, literally meaning "the golden peak") is one of the most important pilgrim sites of the Jains in India. The temple complex, consisting of more than 80 temples and shrines, is located on a hill in Datia district (Madhya Pradesh), about 70 km south of Gwalior.

• The site is famous as a siddha ksehtra (place of salvation) and is mainly connected with the Digambar Jains (Shri Digamber Jain Siddha Kshetra Sonagiri).
• The building of the temples began about the year 1300 CE.
• Among the various temples and shrines the Temple No. 57 (main temple of the complex) and the Temples Nos. 59-60 are of special importance and of art historical interest.
