Jainism an Ancient Religion of India As one of the oldest religions of the world, if not the oldest, Jainism is one of the three major Indian religions along with Hinduism and Buddhism. Jainism, of great significance through succeeding in its many thousands of years old history in preserving to the present day its personal religious identity, personifies a unique faith with its own philosophy, mythology, ethics and rituals. Jainism has its own deities, scriptures and preceptors; temples, places of worship, pilgrimage centres and festivals. The designation Jain applies to approximately ten million members of India's most ancient Śramaṇa religion. Despite that, fixing a particular date for the origin of Jainism is very difficult. To the Jains, innumerable Tīrthañkaras reveal Jainism over and over in the eternity of time.
