When one uses word ‘Jain Vegan’, technically it should mean that person won’t drink dairy milk apart being strict vegetarian. ‘Jain vegans’ also means that a person won’t eat root vegetables, a person will drink boiled filtered water, a person won’t eat after sunset, a person won’t attend late night parties, a person wont drink anything called as vine (as vegans have vegan wine too) & indulge in daily Samayik & Pratikraman.
And if these things don’t apply then we are passing a wrong message to world by using word ‘Jain vegans’. Simply any vegan should use word vegan and avoid use of any religious word like ‘Jain Vegans’, ‘Hindu vegans’, ‘Muslim vegans’, ‘Catholic vegans’, ‘Buddhist vegans’. Among all world religions one may come across or have staunch vegetarians but we may have never heard words like ‘Jain vegetarians’, ‘Hindu vegetarians’, ‘Catholic vegetarians’, etc.
Today so many religious conflicts are prevailing in world, so why to create further more confusions. As in past Vegetarians have used general word Vegetarians, Vegans should used word vegans. Vegetarianism & Veganism have their own theory & rest faiths have their own theory. All Jains are vegetarians and Jains do have concept of Ayambil also which is technically far more wider concept then Veganism. Jainism has its own code of conduct and variety of fasting rituals & set of guidelines for food diet patterns of its layman. Where Veganism only talks about avoidance of milk or honey, Jainism teaches us to care even for tiny insects, micro organisms, animals, living beings, forest, environment & mainly our ecology. Jainism also teaches us to maintain certain code of conduct. At every stage of our life some sort of himsa is involved where total eradication is not possible, its layman attempt to minimise himsa and try to overcome the vicious cycle of birth - death and get liberated.
