Professor Narendra Bhandari is a physicist, having done his Ph.D. from University of Bombay, Mumbai, India. He has worked at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India, University of California, San Diego, USA, and Physical Research laboratory, Ahmedabad, India and University of Turin, Turin, Italy. He has participated in the study of lunar samples brought by Apollo missions, Soviet Luna missions and in planning of India's Chandrayaan-i mission. His current research interests are Cosmic ray interactions with matter, applications of radionuclides in Earth and Planetary sciences, meteorites and moon. Technical aspects of his work are related to radiation counting at ultra-low levels, particle track technique and neutron activation.
Professor Bhandari has been President of International Lunar Exploration Working Group (ILEWG) during 2004-2006.
He is a Fellow of Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi; Indian Academy of Science, Bangalore and National Academy of Science, Allahabad.
He has been awarded Vikram Sarabhai Award for Planetary & Space Science, 1976 by Hari Om Ashram., Certificate of Special Recognition by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, USA for Lunar sample analysis, 1979, National Mineral Award of Government of India for Earth Sciences, 1990 and the Iyenagar-Sahni award of the Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany, Lucknow, 1998.
He was conferred the Title of "Space Visionary" by the Intemational Society of Space Visionaries, USA.
