Asharan Anupreksha (contemplation of no shelter)Once, Anathi got sick. It was an illness of the eyes. She was well to do and despite trying various treatments by many doctors far and wide the illness could not be brought under control. Her family members were moaning seeing her unbearable pain. Anathi thought long and hard what she should do. She realized that she was completely helpless since nothing was working. Money and family both could not become a protector. She reflected and resolved that if her eyes are cured, she would become a sage.
Suddenly, a miracle happened. She made the resolution at night and by the time she woke-up in the morning her eyes were completely cured. The eye disease that could not be cured through various treatments was cured by making just a resolution. Anathi left her worldly comforts and became a sage.
This is asharan anupreksha it means none other than the self is shelter.
